Season Status and Important Dates

Season Status - All drafts are now completed and nearly all teams are made so if you have not heard from the manager of your team you will very soon.  Practices for majors and junior majors are occurring this week at Anderson (although we are fighting the weather).  The fields at Martha B Day and Delazier are not yet ready for practices for other levels.  As soon as they are we will let you know.  Practice and game schedules will be issued once fields open.

Opening Day - Opening day is scheduled for this Saturday, April 7th.  Rookie, Instructional, Minor, Junior Majors and Majors please arrive at Delazier on Ballston Ave in Bloomingdale at 845am and march in the parade with your team.  Joe Bennett and Frank Poerio will be at Delazier to organize the teams. Please find the sign with your division and team and stay with your division and team so we can promptly leave Delazier around 9am. All players should wear their uniform for the parade and bring cleats if they are participating in the skills competition.

The parade will continue up Main Street and Hamburg Turnpike to Anderson Field, where we will hold our opening day ceremonies, skills competition, games, food and opening day games.  We will once again hold the baseball skills competition including a fastest runner, golden arm, and home run derby.  Managers please identify players on your teams for these events.  Don't forget to have your equipment handy if you are participating.  The snack stand will be open and serving breakfast and lunch, and Frank Benicasa and Nick Vitone will manning the grill to keep you warm.  We will also have a Major and Junior Majors opening day games.

We will also have a baseball equipment swap table.  So bring your old equipment that is still in good shape and then take some equipment you can use.  Remember people have to give in order for others to receive – so do some spring cleaning and bring what you cannot use anymore.

New to Triboro Meeting Q&A - For those new to Triboro, we will have an Intro to Triboro Rookie/Instructional Meeting on Wednesday April 11th at Anderson time is TBD.  This is an informal meeting to provide information on the season and answer any questions that you may have.

Team Coordinators - To assist the manager with all the fundraising and coordination activities, we ask that a Team Coordinator be identified for each team.  If interested, please let your manager/coach know.  We will have a meeting of Team Coordinators on Monday April 9th.

Manager and Coach Information

We will provide the managers, coaches and players with professional training.  In advance of the training we strongly recommend that you visit a new website http://www.littleleagueu.org which provides great coaching videos and other Little League Information.  We will be holding a manager/coaches meeting on Thursday April 5th.  Look for an email with further details.   If you are managing or coaching you are required to possess a Rutgers Safety Card.  If you do not have a Rutgers card, you are not permitted to be on the field for liability reasons.

New Bat Rules – Starting in 2018, Little League International instituted revised rules for all baseball bats.  These bat rules are in effect during games and practices.  The rule is as follows:

Rule 1.10 - Baseball

The bat must be a baseball bat which meets the USA Baseball Bat standard (USABat) as adopted by Little League. It shall be a smooth, rounded stick, and made of wood or of material and color tested and proved acceptable to the USA Baseball Bat standard (USABat). Beginning with the 2018 season, non-wood and laminated bats used in the Little League (Majors) and below, Intermediate (50-70) Division, Junior League divisions, and Challenger division shall bear the USA Baseball logo signifying that the bat meets the USABat – USA Baseball’s Youth Bat Performance Standard. All BPF – 1.15 bats will be prohibited beginning with the 2018 season. Additionally, starting in 2018, the bat diameter shall not exceed 2⅝ inches for these divisions of play. Additional information is available at LittleLeague.org/batinfo.

Tee Ball (and instructional)

Under the USA Bat standard, certified Tee Ball bats (26" and shorter) will feature the USA Baseball mark and text which reads ONLY FOR USE WITH APPROVED TEE BALLS. All Tee Ball bats must feature the USA Baseball mark and accompanying text. Tee Ball bats and instructional that were produced and/or purchased prior to the implementation of the new standard can be certified using an Approved Tee Ball Sticker via the USA Baseball Tee Ball Sticker Program (USABaseballShop.com) beginning September 1, 2017.

What this means is that the rookie and instructional level CAN you use an old bat as long as it has been inspected by the TBLL Board and a USA Baseball Sticker has been applied to it.  We have the stickers required to be applied to all rookie and instructional level bats and will be available opening day to inspect and apply the stickers.  For all Minor, Junior Major, and Major levels all bats that are used in play or in practice must bear the USA baseball Logo.  Bats used in Junior and Senior play must be BBCOR.  More information on the revised bats rules can be found at http://www.littleleague.org/learn/equipment/baseballbatinfo.htm

Anderson Snack StandThe Anderson snack stand is an important element of our financial stability.  Frank Benicasa is taking leadership of the snackstand and your support of this important function of our little league is critical.  Please stop by Anderson for dinner or a snack as you are watching the game.  Profits support the league.  If there are any menu suggestions, please let us know.  The home team will have responsibility for the snack stand and it is expected that each parent assists us as scheduled – no exceptions.  Please note that the scoring booth upstairs has new paint and carpet and therefore no kids are allowed upstairs unless accompanied by an adult.
