Good Evening, Tri-Boro Nation,
As we approach the start of the season, we’d like to share an important update regarding a change to our Majors Division this year. Our Majors teams will now be playing on the 50/70 field size, rather than the traditional 46/60 field. This decision was made after careful consideration, and we believe it will benefit our players in several key ways.
Why the change?
-
Better Preparation for the Next Level
The primary reason for the shift is to better prepare our players for the transition to the 60/90 field, which is used at the Junior and Senior levels. The jump from the 46/60 field to the 60/90 field can be a significant challenge, and we believe that playing on the 50/70 field will help ease this transition and make it more manageable.
-
Skills Development
The 50/70 field allows us to teach important skills such as leading off, stealing, pick-offs, and drop third strikes—all of which are critical as players move up to higher levels of competition. By incorporating these skills earlier, we are ensuring that our players are more prepared when they eventually play on the big field.
-
Preparing Players for High School
Another important consideration is our goal of preparing players for high school-level baseball. Our league serves as a feeder program for local high schools, including Butler and Kinnelon. By introducing these skills and field sizes earlier, we are giving high school teams players who are already familiar with the nuances of the game.
While there may be a brief adjustment period as our teams adapt to the new field size, we are confident that this change will ultimately benefit our players in the long run.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email.
Thank you for your continued support,
